The difference
Most e-signature tools record that somebody clicked. If the other side later says it was not them, or that the document said something else, that record has to hold up on its own. Autentik is built so it does.
An ordinary e-signature
An email address, an IP address, a timestamp. Nothing shows that the person at the other end was who they said they were, and nothing stops the document being edited afterwards. If it is ever challenged, the work of proving it falls to you.
An Autentik signature
The signer passed an identity check. A one-time code went only to them. The seal covers the whole document, so any later change shows. Anyone you hand it to can check all three for themselves, without asking us.

01 / Identity
Signing opens with a real identity check, not just a link sent to an email address. So the name on the signature belongs to a person who was actually verified, not to whoever happened to open the message.

02 / One-time code
A single-use code, good for a few minutes, goes to the channel tied to that verified identity, never to one typed in at signing time. That is what makes the signature theirs and nobody else's.

03 / The seal

A signature is worth what it can prove on the day someone questions it. So the proof travels with the document, and none of it depends on us being around.
Offline verification
A sealed document can be checked against published cryptographic material alone: no login, no account, no call back to us. A lawyer, a bank, or a court can confirm it on a laptop with the network switched off, and it would still work if Autentik were gone tomorrow.

By default a copy travels with the envelope so your signers can read it. Turn on zero custody and Autentik stores only the document's fingerprint, never the file: you deliver the copy yourself, and signers check it matches.
Tamper-evident
Every step of a signing is chained to the one before it. Add, remove, or reorder anything and the chain stops matching, which is visible to anyone checking.
